The 2023 RunSedona events which took place on Saturday, February 4, (5K/10K/half-marathon) was a huge success, with close to 3,000 runners participating across this year’s races. As the event continues to grow and see increased participation, it is clear that RunSedona is providing a great race day experience in a beautiful setting that gives runners something to look forward to each year.
BlueWolf Events, the event production company behind RunSedona has been putting on this successful running weekend for over 15 years. As the Race Director, Jeffery Frost notes, the event welcomes runners of all ages and abilities and has long-received valuable support from the greater-Sedona community. “Competitors can run or walk their course while enjoying the amazing red rock scenery. With so many new runners on the scene post-Covid it is great to provide such an opportunity”.
One of the most notable aspects of the 2023 RunSedona half marathon was the high number of new participants. In fact, 70% of the participants were new to the race this year with many of them traveling for the event. Among the runners, the majority were female. This is a testament to the growth the sport has seen in women’s participation in the last few years.
This year for the first time, RunSedona athletes were given the opportunity to sign up and participate in a Group Training Program with a certified coach all through the V.O2 app. Both new and veteran runners participated in the program, focusing on everything from hydration and fuel on long runs to rest and recovery post-race.
Being that Sedona is a destination for travelers due to the sunny and cool climate at this time of year, RunSedona is positioned as an ideal race for many runners.
Participants traveled from all over the country to take part in the race, which is an indication of the event’s growing reputation.
RunSedona is a great event for those that make plans to join every year, and for anyone who happens to be in town on race weekend looking for a way to get outside and explore. As one participant from Washington state noted, “I Googled to see if there was a local race in the area since it was a weekend. There was!”
RunSedona organizers are thrilled with the encouraging response from this year’s race and anticipate strong numbers of runners returning and growing numbers of new participants for 2024.
